I have taken some time to realise this, but I have actually missed blogging!
I don’t intend for it to be a place for me to write about my work, but being a self employed designer (which at times is a little all consuming) I think it would be a bit odd if I didn’t share some of the things I’m sketching/mulling over/actually making/taking to market as it’s a huge part of who I am. But it’s more about cherishing and sharing the little things and simple pleasures in life.
I’ll be writing my blog from where ever I happen to be (I have bought some new notebooks especially). For example this, my very first post has been written in the pub! I am with my daughter and her friend eating mini doughnuts, them not me (I wish)! I am going to scribe all my posts in this way, (by hand – not in the pub) as I enjoy writing more this way and it will give me a welcome excuse to have a screen break.
Tradtionally I blogged in my studio, but I also design, craft, photograph, package orders and spend way too much time on pinterest here (more on that to come).
Over recent months it has become more and more apparent to me that I can’t work in a mess. I just can’t do it, I used to say things like ‘it’s okay because it’s my mess’. But then when I need to get my creative hat on I have to have a manic tidy up because I, for some reason I no longer can function in chaos. I am wondering why this is, for years I have been a stereotypical ‘creative type’ generally a fairly messy creature, who relished in wallowing within my packs of coloured card and sketch pads, posts of paint, boxes of buttons and reams of fabric etc. But not any more! I am a changed person, I need order, of course not in an obsessive compulsive manner (well maybe a bit) but everything needs to have a home and live in it! And so One Tidy Studio is born… (it won’t all be about tidying up I promise)!
Aaaaaand for those of you who know me from a previous life, I haven’t taken leave of my senses, don’t panic I am still partial to a bit of bunting, here’s a lovely photo of some bunting I took on a beautifully sunny day in Padstow, Cornwall a few years back, for your enjoyment.
